Botswana

Botswana is one of Africa’s richly mineral endowed countries and its boarders are uniquely positioned over the continent allowing explorers access to a diverse range of mineral domains and mineralisation systems. These include systems such as iron-oxide copper gold (IOCG) deposits from the Lufilian Arc in the northwest; granite related gold and mafic related nickel-copper-PGE deposits in the Rhodesian Craton and Limpopo Mobile Belt to the east; Bushveld style mineralisation from large igneous provinces in the south; stratiform copper in the Damaran Mobile Belt to the north; and younger kimberlite intrusives which host diamonds in central Botswana.

With this mineral wealth and diversity Botswana is an ideal location for mineral exploration and Kenex will be undertaking spatial modelling of selected regions in the next year. Botswana is considered relatively underexplored compared with some African countries and other continents around the world. With sound governance and permitting systems, along with encouragement towards activities by junior / small explorers, Botswana holds a lot of potential for mineral exploration success.

The excellent availability of digital geological, geochemical and geophysical data makes Botswana an ideal region for GIS-based prospectivity modelling. Prospectivity modelling over Botswana, Namibia and Zambia for IOCG mineralisation is planned by Kenex to upgrade our existing modelling with newly available digital data in these countries. This modelling will be undertaken on a continental scale and will be ideal for explorers who are looking at areas for prospecting IOCG mineralisation.

In addition to this continental modelling Kenex is planning on more detailed prospectivity models over the east of Botswana. These models will be for granite and orogenic related gold mineralisation in the Rhodesian Craton (e.g. the Tati Schist Belt) and for mafic associated nickel-copper-PGE mineralisation in the Limpopo Mobile Belt. We will be using newly acquired digital geology and detailed geophysical data to create models mapping the best exploration targets in Eastern Botswana.
